The chance to give thanks.

I'm Thankful for so much. Tommorow I will mostly be off of any work duties and will get to be with both my immediate and extended family. I am blessed my parents will be there, I am blessed with wonderful siblings and nieces and nephews and in laws and friends who are like family. We are in good health and spirits, we will be celebrating around a table and not in a war zone or in some famine zone or fighting a plague somewhere far from home. We will have the luxury of discussing things and possibly disagreeing about abstract notions, not forced to only think about the necessities of survival. None of us really know how many more times we will get a chance to share gratitude with the people who matter the most to us, each time is a gift.

Thank you to everyone, seen and unseen, who work to create and defend that little bit of domestic tranquility where we can pursue happiness.

Coming Back

Holy goodness have I been gone for a while. First off, to the imaginary following who I picture refreshing this blog daily and being disappointed day after day, I apologize but commend your unwavering persistence.

Second, I do the following things:
Work full time as a Community Support Specialist helping the mentally ill for a little non-profit firm in the Midwest.

Work part time as an installer for Geo Group, a tremendously large for-profit prisons and corrections company.

Work part time as a Volunteer Firefighter, with the fire calls and training that entails.

Work part time as a Tax Preparer, for a few months of the year.

I made an attempt at starting my own company earlier this year with short, but unsustainable success.

I raise two boys with the help of their awesome mother who is studying nursing.

I sometimes assist my studious wife with school related projects, printing, studying, proof-reading and so on.

And along with managing our home, finances, and some other things I stay rather busy.

Football season is starting soon, that will eat up some time....

Anyhow, I just wanted to leave some gifts to anyone disappointed at my blogging:

One: Follow Barrett Brown's writings from Prison. Using needlessly literate verbiage to describe the mundane and demoralizing is a coping mechanism often used by the literati to deal with being in a station where they feel their intellect is being strangled. His entire writings are essentially this coping mechanisms over and over. He is someone on the list of people I think are being targeted and punished in an almost dystopian police state manner. Read his stuff here, or search for "Barrett Brown" and "Arts and Letters"

Two: If you have not seen "Mr. Robot" yet, jump in headfirst the first three episodes are available from USA. The rest are behind paywalls and subscriptions fees, which would stop many fans... but this IS a show about a realistically depicted tenacious computer hacker so it is possible the fan base will know of ways to watch this program while bypassing such gatekeeper functions.

I will try to write more, but living comes first.

Gun Laws can Work

Gun laws work.

Not 100% of the time. Not flawlessly. Man's inhumanity to man is not negated in it's totality... but Gun Laws save lives. Law, by itself, isn't sufficient of course. Enforcement by authorities, a court and corrections system, and a culture that respects the law is necessary as well. But gun laws save lives.

Gun laws save lives by keeping #1) Guns out of the hands of people who have no business EVER owning a gun and #2) Keeping guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have a gun during certain times in their life.

Someone, while defending the system that enables our National Ritual of the Mass killing with a gun, asked me to list, I assume with specific codes and such, laws that would have stopped the most recent mass killer from his mass gun killing. (If another gun massacre has occurred since I wrote this, it was in reference to the Charleston, SC Massacre that took the lives of Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Depayne Middleton, Ethel Lance, Susie Jackson, Cynthia Hurd, Rev. Sharonda Coleman-Singleton,Myra Thompson, and Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr)

The folks who died were older folks who had put in long years serving their communities. They were Reverends and Teachers and Librarians and Coaches, good folks who would have given many more good years of shaping the minds and lives of young people and people in need in their community. They had names and families and lives and histories and deserve to be mentioned as more than a body count or statistic.

The killer is believe to be, and is in custody as I write this, Mr. Dylann Roof. He is, as with most times we have this conversation, a younger man. He had no job, was supported financially by family, had a history of social isolation, trouble with educations, concerns about his lifestyle from friends an family, interactions with the police because of erratic behavior and so on. This is a rather standard description of many other shooters in similar events over the past years. You can go here for details: http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/18/us-usa-shooting-south-carolina-roof-idUSKBN0OY28220150618

In February he was behaving erratically, asking odd questions and eventually having folks call the police of the Columbiana Center, and also getting banned from the center for a year but returned in violation of that agreement and was arrested for Trespassing. Upon searching his vehicle he was found to have an illegal measure of the habit forming narcotic Suboxone in his possession with no prescription or such. He lied about this to police and was taken in custody, eventually relesed on bail.

An individual who is scheduled for Trial for a felony is not supposed to be able to purchase a gun. Question B on the Federal ATF Form (https://www.atf.gov/file/61446/download)is "Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony, or any other crime, for which the judge could imprison you for more than a year?"

This is because if a person is out on Bail for felony charges, that person is not allowed to buy a gun. Either someone isn't on bail, or they lie on the form, or they don't legally get a gun. And, when localities follow their due diligence and report it when you are on bail that will show up on a background check.

You agree to many things when you agree to post bail, often not leaving the state or being monitored or such.

In April of this year, on his Birthday, Dylann Roof was given a pistol by his father. This was in South Carolina so, though he was out on bail and would not have passed a background check, he did not have to do so. The person who provided him that weapon likely is not liable for giving that person a gun since it is imaginable he could be ignorant of the charges of the indicted individual and that he was not out on bail.

Some states, such as California, have passed laws stating that when you transfer the ownership of a firearm - even to a family member - you much conduct a background check. The fees for this are waived in some situations, but there should always be a background check.

A properly maintained and enforces system of Universal Background Checks would have made the transfer of this gun from buyer to killer illegal. In California this WOULD have been illegal. (https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/pubfaqs). That law, and compliance to it, would have kept that gun out of the hands of this killer.

He didn't buy a gun on the black market, he didn't buy it from a retailer, he got the firearm through a transfer between private citizens with no background check WHEN HE WOULDN'T HAVE PASSED ONE.

So THAT is the particular law that first comes to mind when I think about the legislative part of trying to slow down the terrible amount of killings like these.

Defending Dylann's right to get a gun while awaiting trial for his felony is defending the events that happened today.

President's Day

Happy to be enjoying part of this day with my family. The Presidency of the United States has been an awesome responsibility taken on by many astounding people over the history of our nation. Some of the best folks to ever hold the office have used it to aspire the nation and the world to reach for bigger and greater things.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was among the greatest at this, a year before our nation's involvement in the Second World War, FDR gave us this speech:

“In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way — everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want — which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants-everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear — which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor — anywhere in the world.

That is no vision of a distant millennium. It is a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation. That kind of world is the very antithesis of the so-called new order of tyranny which the dictators seek to create with the crash of a bomb.”

We have been blessed to have had such great individuals lead us.

Denmark killings, Revisiting past writings....

In light of recent events in Denmark and Paris for that matter, I felt the need to re-post something from about a decade ago when I was in the Phillipines and I happened across some religious Muslims who had been given materials misleading them to believe that a series of offensive cartoons in that nation were #1) Actually more offensive than the cartoons that were published and #2) WAAAAAAY more popular in viewership and promotion than they were. I learned how folks would travel from place to place stirring up that false view of another people's culture in hopes in would trigger a response. It did.

Anyhow, here is a reposting of what I wrote back in 2006 on my old blog.

The things you learn in the Southern Phillipines.

I know what is up with the cartoon controversy. It all makes so much sense now. Really, I am not joking.

(For the record, there is an ongoing Muslim/Christian who-owns-what insurgency type thing in the Southern Phillipines and this is where I met some local Muslims (Who I would deem semi-moderate) who led me down the path of understanding the conspiracy that made this a world uproar.)

This may be the only worthwhile thing I have written:

The local Muslims here, like all clergy everywhere, has an intra-faith network where they exhange ideas and such for upcoming services. Usually these are just ideas that are gotten out just before Muslim Friday prayer. Just like with some religious extremists in the United States, this network is sometimes misapproriated to futher political goals. This is how the news of the (fabricated) cartoons were spread. This explanation and some names got me to the net cafe (even the crappy parts of this country are wired well) and I did some research.

Remember: They received descriptions, and have not seen the actual cartoons, since where would they get them? It is sinful to distribute those images among Muslims.

The key to this is a power/influence grab by Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban, who is described as having links to Jemmai Islamiyya (this is significant because it explains how this got spread to the Phillipines, since this group has many many ties here - including to MILF and Abu Sayyaf).

This Palestinian/Danish Imam has finished up a world tour as part of a delegation speading FABRICATED CARTOONS. That is right, starting in Palestine, stopping in Saudi Arabia, and the going around the world, these fabrications - which are kind of offensive - and the false responses to them (rousing anti-Muslim sentiment by readers) were used to stir up a movement. There is more about this at Typepad and of course Haganah with the Haganah site having An original letter from the delegation in PDF form.

Most Muslims out there who have seen the actual Danish-printed images have this view. I am thinking that the fabricated "Pig-Fucker" string of cartoons might be the things stirring this up more.

There is a second part to this:
Obviously most Arabic T.V. is not showing the images, and most Western news outlets have been pixelating them: Ergo - The fictional descriptions of these spread at Friday Prayers are the only thing they are going on.

One of the people calling for the news outlets to not actually show the cartoons: Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban

The person who called for the boycott of goods from nations that published the cartoon: Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban

The person quoted as saying "...mockery against Mohamed deserves death penalty.": Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban
-Remember that wording.

Next - Lets put those PSYOP skills to work:
Lets look at some recent images:

London, as the shitstorm broke

Notice the identical handwriting style on the placards. Notice the cuts done to the placards. These were not made hastily on the spot. These were made ahead of time, by one individual, and then disseminated to the already fired up crowd. This is not a grass roots demonstration. This is what we shady political insider types call "Astroturf" - a set up made to imitate a grass roots movement.

The messages written sound similar in tone to the Imam's, no?

Next from Jordan, as the shitstorm was underway:

Notice the pre-printed placards. Again, made ahead of time and disseminated as (or after) the crowd had assembled.

It only takes three or four of these astroturfed events to have copycats around the world. Creating an incident this size sure would put a certain Imam on the map among leaders as being able to play the game, right?

Eventually, the results became deadly but hey, what does Abu Asshole care? He is ON THE MAP BABY.

So in summation: "Muslims just going Apeshit again" is not the real story here. Muslims worldwide are being misled, by a fabrication, intentionally spread by one delegation, that is doing everything in its power to keep this fire burning.

The solution is to "out" Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban. Discredit him, his delegation, and stop someone this Machievellian from getting any more power.

The things you learn here...
